With over 25 years of experience as an environmental scientist, ecological consultant, health and safety practitioner, and environmental communicator, Ian now leads HAR, supported by a dedicated team and international associates. Passionate about addressing the growing biodiversity and climate crises, Ian brings a broad skill set to HAR, from technical expertise to leadership, business management, and project execution. He actively drives and engages in support and funding for large-scale habitat restoration projects through effective communication, networking, and collaboration with industry partners, government agencies, charities, and local community groups.

Samantha’s role at HAR is multi-disciplinary, combining project management, community engagement, and creative input. A graduate of Schumacher College with a Master’s in Ecological Design Thinking, Samantha has integrated holistic ecological practices into restoration projects across the globe, from the Peruvian Amazon to Kenya and the Highlands of Scotland. At HAR, she brings her expertise in project management and community involvement to balance marine and land ecosystems through seabird habitat restoration.

As HAR’s Lead Restoration Ecologist, Ed brings over a decade of experience in invasive species control and eradication. Having contributed to six major eradication projects in locations such as the UK, New Zealand, and the Caribbean, Ed’s work had a significant impact significantly impacts restoring vulnerable ecosystems. A lover of the outdoors, Ed often captures stunning imagery and footage in some of the most remote and wild areas where his work takes him, sharing the beauty and importance of these landscapes with others.

Archie’s primary goal is everyone at HAR arrives home safely every day . With over 12 years of experience in rope access worldwide—from the railways in the Scottish Highlands to the gold mines of Western Australia, shipyards in Singapore, and wind turbines in Sweden—safety has always been at the heart of his career. Fatherhood sparked a desire for a career change, leading Archie to seabird conservation at HAR. He finds purpose in making a difference in the workplace, his local community, and the environment, which drives his ongoing commitment to the organisation’s values.

Tom’s role within HAR is multi-disciplinary. He is a field manager, stakeholder engager, and seabird surveyor. A Master’s graduate in Zoology focusing on conservation from Bangor University, Tom has extensive experience in wildlife management and research. Before joining HAR, he worked on offshore ornithological surveys and in ecological consultancy. Tom sees HAR as an ideal platform to create lasting changes to ecosystems, particularly in combating the impact of invasive non-native species.

Will Brown, HAR’s GIS expert, is just as comfortable crunching spatial data as he is working in Britain’s rugged landscapes. After a decade designing products for global brands, Will redirected his career, earning a Master’s in Environmental Management and Conservation at the University of Stirling. He has developed models for landscape preferences in Cairngorms National Park and invasive species management in Loch Lomond & Trossachs National Park. Will is passionate about restoring ecological processes and exploring innovative methods to monitor large-scale environmental changes through remote sensing.

With over 10 years of experience in island restoration, Lydia serves as HAR’s Restoration Ecologist and Field Manager, bringing conservation plans to life. She has worked on invasive species eradication projects across the UK, the Caribbean, and New Zealand, contributing to protecting fragile ecosystems. Lydia is highly skilled in biosecurity and incursion response, ensuring restored environments remain free of invasive threats. She is particularly passionate about tracking and detecting small mammals, a skill she enjoys sharing with local communities and fellow conservationists.

Biz has always been drawn to islands and their unique ecosystems, particularly birds. With an MSc in conservation ecology and over 25 years of field experience in invasive species management and ornithological projects worldwide, Biz is well-versed in project design and management, biosecurity planning, and scientific reporting. She is dedicated to community-based conservation, believing it is essential for achieving and sustaining long-term positive environmental impacts. Biz is committed to empowering local communities with the skills and resources to drive successful conservation outcomes.

With a lifelong passion for wildlife conservation, particularly birds, Matt has worked across Australia, South Africa, and the UK for government organisations, wildlife parks, and as a lecturer in animal management. He has also served as a safari consultant for ethical wildlife travel. Matt is deeply committed to finding effective conservation solutions that benefit wildlife and people. As Community Liaison Officer for the Bailiwick of Guernsey Seabird Restoration Project, Matt collaborates with local stakeholders to ensure the project’s success.

He feels privileged to visit some of the world’s most remote areas and is driven by a strong desire to help protect these special places for future generations.

With a nose for adventure and a calming presence, Rollo plays a dual role at Habitat Restoration as both Detector and Team Therapy Dog. Whether accompanying field surveys or providing much-needed downtime back at base, he’s a vital part of the crew. Equally at home navigating rough terrain or curling up beside a laptop, Rollo brings balance, cheer, and the occasional muddy paw print to our workdays.
